God’s Call and His Gifts

Romans 11:29 “For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.”
Gods gift and call

As I walk this cancer journey and all the bumps in the road along the way, I have been thinking about what God’s call is for me…

In 2011 when Sara passed away, I said yes to both her and God to continue this choose joy ministry here on earth. I walked with Sara through the years as her disease progressed and got more difficult, but it wasn’t until I started walking my own journey that I gained a deeper understanding of her God inspired messages to us.

We all have a place and a call in God’s heart and in God’s plans.

I believe that one way for us to know what God’s plans are for us, is by paying attention to the gifts and talents He has blessed us with. I also think those gifts and talents can change throughout our lives and therefore we need to be present and pay attention to His call.

In one of my earlier posts I talked about God making us human beings, not human doings.  The “doing” consists of those things that are rational and are often more comfortable for us because we have been educated and trained on the “doing”. “Being” on the other hand can be more difficult because it is about being still and listening to our heart and our spiritual being. The challenge for us in using our gifts and paying attention to God’s call is that we can’t choose our head (the doing) over our heart (the being). We must center ourselves with both.

The poem Footprints takes on a whole new meaning for me when I look back on my life and the challenges I have walked through. During those times of struggle, I didn’t always feel God’s presence with me. But, when I look back on those times today, I can see Him walking right beside me. It was me who was digging in my heels instead of trusting Him. God does not always call the equipped, but He does equip the called…and sometimes equipping the called is by walking straight through a path of difficulty and challenges.

As I look at my life since Sara passed away in 2011, I see Him in every step…

I knew nothing about the publishing industry…and He lead the journey to publishing Sara’s God inspired words in the book Choose Joy: Finding Hope and Purpose When Life Hurts.

I was not comfortable with public speaking…and He has opened doors for me to share His message using Sara’s life as an example to others.

When I was praying about what next steps were for this Choose Joy ministry…He is carrying me as I walk through my own journey to joy.

God equipped Sara and she was faithful in using her gifts and following God’s calling. I pray that He will continue to equip me with an open mind, humble heart and faithful feet to carry out what He has called me to do. That even when life hurts, I will see my purpose and find hope in Him.

I pray that for you too.
